About the role
Role overview
Engineering Manager for Canonical’s App Stores platform (Snap Store / Charmhub.io marketplaces, unified software distribution engine). You’ll lead a remote engineering team building Python and Go micro-services that power large-scale software distribution and release workflows.
Responsibilities
- Lead a remote team of engineers in your time zone
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members through hands-on career growth
- Set and manage expectations with engineering teams, management, and external stakeholders
- Provide technical leadership through code reviews and architecture guidance
- Collaborate with product managers and architects to produce an engineering roadmap
- Drive and maintain healthy engineering practices, including documentation, quality, and performance optimization
- Be a positive influence on team culture; facilitate delivery and strategy/execution reflection
Requirements
- Strong technical fluency in the languages, architecture, and components used by the team
- Ability to run an effective team: keep engineers focused, productive, and unblocked
- Experience contributing via code reviews and architectural leadership
Nice-to-haves / alignment
- Passion for clean APIs and shipping software regularly against an agile plan
- Belief that tests enable higher velocity and reliability
- Interest in working alongside security expertise to deliver capabilities safely at scale
