About the role

Role overview

Engineering Manager for Canonical’s App Stores platform (Snap Store / Charmhub.io marketplaces, unified software distribution engine). You’ll lead a remote engineering team building Python and Go micro-services that power large-scale software distribution and release workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a remote team of engineers in your time zone
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members through hands-on career growth
  • Set and manage expectations with engineering teams, management, and external stakeholders
  • Provide technical leadership through code reviews and architecture guidance
  • Collaborate with product managers and architects to produce an engineering roadmap
  • Drive and maintain healthy engineering practices, including documentation, quality, and performance optimization
  • Be a positive influence on team culture; facilitate delivery and strategy/execution reflection

Requirements

  • Strong technical fluency in the languages, architecture, and components used by the team
  • Ability to run an effective team: keep engineers focused, productive, and unblocked
  • Experience contributing via code reviews and architectural leadership

Nice-to-haves / alignment

  • Passion for clean APIs and shipping software regularly against an agile plan
  • Belief that tests enable higher velocity and reliability
  • Interest in working alongside security expertise to deliver capabilities safely at scale
