Engineering Manager (AI Applications)

Role overview

Plaid is hiring an Engineering Manager (AI Applications) to lead a newly formed team (4 engineers) focused on scaling successful AI initiatives. You’ll define and drive long-term strategy for AI applications that support Plaid’s AI customers and partners while improving customer experience with AI-powered solutions.

Key missions

• Lead a team of engineers to develop and execute the long-term strategy for AI applications at Plaid
• Drive projects enabling and scaling the business with AI customers and partners (personal finance use cases)
• Scale and extend existing successful bets on AI-powered customer experience, including:
  • Customer support
  • Product recommendations

Responsibilities / expectations

• Own strategy and execution for 0→1 GenAI-powered product development
• Be a hands-on partner who can also function as a technical PM
• Balance exploration and feasibility to deliver product outcomes

Requirements

• 1+ years of engineering management experience
• 8+ years industry experience, including time as a Staff-level engineer before moving into management
• Hands-on experience building and shipping LLM/GenAI products with iteration using real user feedback
• Experience with Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG)
• Familiarity with semantic search, vector databases, and embedding models
• Prompt engineering experience
• Experience with streaming and SSE
• Ability to deeply understand user/customer needs via user research and rapid experimentation
• Track record building and growing high-performing engineering teams
• Comfort working in privacy/PII-sensitive environments and applying compliance mitigations

Nice-to-haves

• Fine-tuning and/or domain-specific LLM fine-tuning
• Agent orchestration frameworks
• Evaluation/monitoring frameworks for open-ended tasks
• Experience training and/or serving ML models in production
