About the role
Role Overview
Acorns is hiring two Engineering Managers for two distinct teams:
- Engineering Manager, Growth: Lead Growth engineering to improve the customer acquisition funnel.
- Engineering Manager, AI: Lead an AI team building and deploying innovative AI features.
Both roles are leadership positions in a fast-paced, product-driven environment, working closely with Product and Design.
Responsibilities (Both Roles)
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-impact engineering team.
- Set and manage team priorities across features, infrastructure, and engineering tooling.
- Improve team processes, communication, and task/project delegation.
- Drive accountability and collaborate to deliver successful outcomes.
- Advocate for the team in hiring, goal setting, performance management, and development planning.
- Foster a collaborative environment that encourages success and innovation.
Responsibilities (Growth)
- Partner with Product and Design to ideate, implement, and analyze A/B tests.
- Improve registration funnel conversion and other key growth metrics.
Responsibilities (AI)
- Guide the team in building AI features using AWS Bedrock, RAG, and agentic architectures.
- Build and deploy products such as "Ask Acorns", an in-app chatbot.
Requirements
- 6+ years of relevant engineering experience in fast-paced environments.
- 2+ years of experience managing software engineering teams.
- Strong foundation in software engineering best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, support, and develop team members.
- Ability to align company vision and organizational goals with team execution.
- Ownership of strategic decisions and clear communication of direction.
- Commitment to company policies and procedures.
Requirements (Role-specific)
- Growth: Proven Growth engineering experience with hands-on A/B testing and conversion rate optimization.
- AI: Deep familiarity with AI/ML concepts and technologies such as Large Language Models (LLMs), AWS Bedrock, RAG, or similar platforms.
Remote / Location
- Remote-first, with optional office access in Irvine, CA.
