About the role
Role overview
HiBob is hiring an Engineering Lead (EST) to build and scale a new Payroll product end-to-end. You will lead a diverse team of Frontend and Backend Engineers and partner closely with Product to shape and execute the roadmap for a Payroll Offering that GA’d in January.
This is fully remote, but you must be physically located in EST and able to work EST hours Monday–Friday.
Responsibilities
- Hire, lead, and develop a high-performing engineering team to deliver the Payroll product aligned with business goals.
- Partner with Product to build and execute the Payroll feature roadmap.
- Drive technical excellence across the full dev lifecycle: technical design → coding → testing → deployment → monitoring.
- Run a continuous delivery environment with fully automated QA on a microservices architecture, deploying to production dozens of times daily.
- Collaborate across global teams (e.g., CX, UX, Infrastructure, and other engineering teams).
- Cultivate a strong feedback culture where team members challenge ideas to optimize outcomes.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong backend background.
- 3+ years experience leading, growing, and mentoring engineering teams (preferably in fast-paced environments).
- Experience building products in domains such as Payroll, Benefits, HR, or Payments (or similar).
- Strong software design and scalable web architecture fundamentals.
- Experience building SaaS products hosted on a cloud platform such as AWS (or equivalent).
- Strong leadership and people skills; ability to build a winning team.
- Independent, proactive, and resourceful team player.
- Must pass the same live coding interview used for Senior Backend Engineering candidates.
Nice to have
- Experience building a product from scratch.
- Experience with Kotlin / Scala / Java.
- Both backend and frontend development experience.
Compensation & benefits highlights
- Base salary: $200,000–$240,000 per year.
