Role Overview

Software Engineer V (remote, US) You set technical direction and own target architecture for a platform/domain spanning multiple teams. You translate ambiguous business goals into technical strategy, make long-term build/buy/migrate decisions, and stay hands-on by prototyping risky parts and shipping critical-path code. You also help shape how teams test and learn at scale.

Responsibilities

Technical direction & architecture ownership: Own and evolve target architecture across team boundaries; define integration contracts and domain boundaries.
Design reviews & proposals: Author technical proposals and lead design reviews to align engineers.
Hands-on delivery: Prototype high-risk components and implement critical-path code.
Reliability & operational excellence: Define SLOs and reliability strategy; lead retrospectives on major incidents and drive architectural improvements.
Test & learn at scale: Shape experimentation strategy; build systems so running experiments is as simple as configuration.
Migration leadership: Plan and lead incremental, zero-downtime migrations off legacy systems.
Engineering standards: Raise org-wide bar with reusable patterns/standards and production-readiness criteria; own parts of the software design process.
Strategic partnership: Align technical strategy with product/leadership and defend build/buy/migrate decisions.
Hiring bar: Help design interview loops and calibrate technical bar for senior hires.
Mentorship: Mentor senior engineers and raise capability through incisive reviews.

Qualifications

8+ years professional software engineering experience.
Experience leading multi-quarter technical initiatives spanning multiple teams.
Track record designing and operating distributed systems in production at meaningful scale.
Deep expertise in cloud-native architecture (Azure preferred), including microservices, eventing, API design, and failure modes.
Exceptional written design communication.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience as the founding/lead architect of a platform (role text cuts off mid-sentence).
