About the role

Role Overview

Contract Engineer (7 months) supporting modernization of enterprise location management and administrative systems for a technology-driven retailer.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions aligned to business goals and strategic initiatives
Build and enhance data services, APIs, and supporting application components
Implement features from product backlog requirements and user stories
Participate in agile ceremonies (story sizing, sprint planning, iterative development)
Create and execute unit tests, automated test scripts, and other testing activities
Validate deliverables against acceptance criteria and business requirements
Produce and maintain project and technical documentation
Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Infrastructure, and Security to deliver scalable and secure solutions
Support integration and messaging across distributed services
Follow industry-standard engineering and agile development practices
Quickly ramp up on existing systems with minimal supervision

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science/IT/Engineering or related) or equivalent experience
3+ years of software engineering/application development experience
1+ years working in an agile development environment
Senior-level experience with Java and Kotlin
Senior-level experience with Kafka (consumer and producer implementations)
Microservices-based architecture experience
Senior-level experience building and supporting REST APIs
Database experience with: Oracle Exadata, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra
Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and software test automation
Ability to work Central Time (Minneapolis) business hours and collaborate with distributed teams

Preferred Qualifications

Modular monorepo architecture experience
Experience contributing to framework-free codebases
Experience with RocksDB
Prior support for large-scale, highly available enterprise systems
Experience serving multiple business units and high-volume consumers
Ability to work onsite up to two days per week in Minneapolis, Minnesota
