Engineer II - Compute Platforms

Role Overview

As an Engineer II - Compute Platforms, you’ll help build and deliver compute platform products while growing your technical expertise and impact. The role focuses on end-to-end ownership of platform features, reliability, and continuous improvement, working with cross-functional teams and mentoring others.

What You’ll Do

• Participate in planning and design discussions and contribute to well-reasoned technical decisions
• Break down complex problems into manageable tasks and deliver end-to-end features
• Write well-tested infrastructure-as-code and promote reliability and monitoring
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across environments, including production, with minimal oversight
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate cross-functionally to improve team outcomes

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
• 2+ years delivering enterprise compute platform features independently
• 3+ years Linux experience
• 2+ years AWS IAM roles/permissions, security groups, monitoring, and logging
• 3+ years EC2/VM system architecture, design, and implementation as a service
• Ability to identify risks, solve moderately complex problems, and make sound technical trade-offs
• Familiarity with SDLC, Agile, and modern development tools (testing, monitoring, automation)

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS Solutions Architect Professional Certification
• 4+ years professional experience
• 1+ year supporting AWS EC2, Auto-Scaling, and Application Load Balancing
• 1+ year configuration management tooling (Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Ansible)
• Strong collaboration/communication and willingness to mentor and continuously learn

Work Arrangement

• Primarily virtual (from home or another non–Best Buy location)
• Must live within drivable distance to the Best Buy corporate campus in Richfield, Minnesota
