Emergency Response Roster - Finance Officer

Role Overview

The Finance Officer will execute accounting processes, ensure compliance with local and international financial regulations, WVI standards, and donor requirements, and maintain financial integrity during emergency response operations. The position is part of WVI’s Emergency Response Roster, which is used for future deployments (not immediate employment upon application).

Key Responsibilities

• Accounting compliance & monitoring
  • Review and verify accuracy of financial source documents and payment packages before processing
  • Ensure transactions align with local legislation, WVI policies, and donor regulations
  • Maintain financial records and registers; ensure timely payment processing and reconciliations
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and clear employee advances
  • Coordinate with Shared Services to support Procure-to-Pay (P2P) and Record-to-Report (R2R) processes
• Audit preparation & support
  • Support preparation of documentation for internal and external audits
  • Ensure processes and transactions comply with audit standards
  • Implement corrective actions based on audit findings
• Local (government) reporting
  • Prepare and submit required local financial reports (e.g., tax and social security)
  • Ensure compliance with local laws and reporting deadlines
  • Maintain accurate financial documentation for government requirements

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
• Experience (minimum): 3+ years in accounting/finance roles, preferably with humanitarian or emergency experience
• Strong understanding of financial regulations, cash flow management, general ledger, and financial reporting
• Proficient with financial and procurement software; expertise in WVI Accounts Payables (AP) processes
• Willingness to deploy on short notice to emergency settings with limited resources

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification
• Prior experience with international NGOs
• Strong familiarity with financial compliance and audit processes in emergency contexts

Deployment / Work Conditions

• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required
• Work hours may exceed 12 hours/day during response periods
• Deployments may occur in insecure or disaster-prone contexts, potentially affecting work patterns and staff safety
• Possible work/housing conditions may fall below normal standards (facilities, equipment, food, hygiene)
