About the role
Role Overview
The Electrical Design Lead ensures each project’s electrical scope is technically sound, code-compliant, and ready for execution. This role bridges design and delivery by providing scoping oversight, pre-sale technical review, permitting guidance, and installation readiness support.
Responsibilities
- Technical design & scoping: Review complex project scopes for feasibility and compliance; support scoping escalations; create or advise on diagrams and layout recommendations with drafters and permit designers.
- Pre-sales technical partner: Answer edge-case design questions and customer constraints before proposals finalize; clarify installation approach; flag risky/non-standard conditions early.
- Permitting & plan set guidance: Review permit plan sets for accuracy; provide field-informed feedback to improve diagram quality and jurisdiction alignment; support AHJ-specific requirements with the Head Electrician and permitting team.
- Installation team support: Review projects for completeness prior to handoff; collaborate with installation operations to flag items needing field re-verification or Master Electrician input.
- Knowledge management: Create technical FAQs, reference guides, and installation readiness checklists; contribute to scoping libraries and internal playbooks.
- Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to simplify/standardize installation process, tools, and procedures; address recurring scoping logic gaps.
Requirements
- Licensed Journeyman Electrician with at least 5 years of hands-on residential experience.
- Working knowledge of the NEC and ability to interpret code for real-world scenarios.
- Comfortable in a software-based environment (e.g., Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office).
Nice to Have
- 10+ years of residential experience, ideally in L2 EV charging, service upgrades, load management, and smart panels.
- Experience in a startup/high-growth tech environment.
- Strong written/oral communication; ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical teammates and customers.
- Comfort reviewing photos/plans/scopes in digital systems (e.g., HubSpot, Dropbox, Figma).
Location & Compensation
- Location: Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, or Remote.
- Salary range: $75,000–$90,000 annually, plus equity.
