Distributed Systems Engineer (L4) - Data Platform

Role Overview

Netflix is seeking a Distributed Systems Engineer (L4) for the Data Platform org. The team builds and evolves infrastructure for highly scalable data storage and distributed systems, enabling mission-critical Netflix services.

Teams / Focus Areas

• Online Data Stores: Managed, highly scalable data storage solutions across multiple domains (NoSQL key/value, search, relational, caching, composite data like graph/time series/counters).
• Caching Team: Extremely low-latency, high-throughput in-memory and distributed caching powering Tier-0 services such as streaming catalog and CDN metadata.
• Data Security & Infrastructure (DSI): Foundational infrastructure and tooling for Netflix’s data platforms, spanning infrastructure, security, and deployment systems.

Responsibilities

• Help evolve and innovate Netflix’s distributed infrastructure and data platform capabilities.
• Build highly performant, reliable, and cost-efficient data storage and caching architectures.
• Develop secure and scalable infrastructure abstractions that improve developer productivity.
• Contribute to open-source ecosystems used by and created for Netflix-scale systems.

Requirements

• Strong background in distributed systems engineering.
• Experience working on high-scale, high-performance data storage and/or caching.
• Ability to build and operate infrastructure that prioritizes reliability, security, and performance.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with caching architectures and/or in-memory distributed data stores.
• Exposure to developer-focused secure abstraction layers on top of base storage systems.
• Open-source contribution and stewardship experience.

• Remote candidates are open, with eligibility to work from anywhere in the U.S.
