Role Overview

Director, Transmission Engineering (Overhead) at NV5 (Remote)

Lead senior transmission engineering work focused on overhead (OH) transmission line projects, directing planning, design, and project execution while ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality requirements.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Engineer of Record and primary client point of contact for power delivery projects.
• Lead a team of 6–10 direct reports and an extended team of 30–40 resources (engineers, designers, drafters).
• Oversee planning, design, and execution of transmission projects, aligning delivery with NV5 strategy.
• Manage multiple projects: deliver on time and within budget.
• Develop project budgets, schedules, and resource plans.
• Manage risks and resolve issues impacting scope, quality, or delivery.
• Prepare, review, and P.E.-sealed technical calculation reports and construction documents.
• Provide technical guidance for design and optimization of transmission systems.
• Assist with marketing, promotion, and business development to retain and add national clients.
• Assist with routing and design of transmission lines using industry-standard tools.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
• Ensure construction package development and engineering QA/QC.
• Travel to client sites as needed.

Requirements

• Transmission Engineering experience with overhead transmission lines.
• Background working on transmission and distribution lines.
• Project management experience.
• P&L leadership experience.
• Ability to act as Engineer of Record and provide P.E.-sealed deliverables.
• Leadership capability to manage direct and extended engineering teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience working with routing/design workflows and construction package development.
• Staying current with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes to integrate best practices.
