Role overview DEPT® is seeking a Director, Retail Design who is a hands-on, “player-coach” leader. You will define and lead the design direction, set a high bar for craft and quality, and partner with design and creative leadership to deliver world-class brand expressions across print and physical retail environments.

What you’ll do

• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams across the agency and across projects.
• Act as the aesthetic anchor, defining standards for visual design, typography, and in-store experiences.
• Lead from the front as a hands-on craft leader (sketching, designing, prototyping, polishing alongside the team).
• Pioneer new retail design solutions and push the team to create industry-defining work.
• Mentor and cultivate talent through clear, actionable feedback and regular 1:1s; foster creative risk-taking.
• Build strong relationships with high-level clients and partners.
• Present complex creative strategies clearly, identify decision-makers, and convert them into partners.
• Translate strategic insights into tangible visual languages (with “why” as well as “how”).
• Generate strategic insights and moodboards to support creative innovation.
• Drive retail projects end-to-end (kick-off to completion), ensuring deliverables meet or exceed expectations while staying on budget and on time.
• Establish project direction and craft guidelines; assist with production as needed.

Remote / travel

• Remote on PST hours with some business travel required.
• Plus: If you’re within commuting distance of Mountain View, CA, you can go onsite 1x/week.
