Role overview
Corporate Tools is seeking a Hands-on Director of Software Engineering in Dallas, TX. The position is remote for now with occasional in-office time as needed. You’ll lead from both the 30,000-foot level (technical direction, roadmap, cross-team alignment) and ground level (steering the ship, mentoring, and jumping into priority work).
Responsibilities
- Lead engineering across software, database, and architecture (including API design)
- Develop solutions/applications for business services while mentoring and developing leaders
- Shape team culture and drive personal development
- Ensure technical feasibility of software and API designs
- Drive product roadmap and execution; participate in technical design
- Identify and correct issues affecting performance, reliability, and scalability
Requirements
- Must be located in Dallas, TX or willing to relocate
- Strong communication and ability to serve as the true technical lead
- Demonstrated experience leading/managing large-scale software and developer engineering teams
- 7+ years of software development and engineering experience (Ruby preferred, not required)
- 5+ years managing and developing software teams of 15–30 engineers
- 10–15 years designing and implementing front-end, back-end, and REST APIs (or 3–5 years for SaaS product development)
- Understanding of AWS cloud architectures and design patterns
- Experience working cross-functionally in an Agile environment
- Experience developing mission-critical applications/solutions
- Ability to design complete systems; stay current with industry trends and change management
Nice-to-haves / preferences
- Ruby experience (preferred, but not required)
