Director of R&D and Strategic Finance

Role Overview

Join Tanium as Director of R&D and Strategic Finance, acting as a key finance partner to R&D leadership. You will own budget management, deliver financial modeling and insights, and support investment and growth decisions with direct exposure to executive-level stakeholders.

Key Missions / Responsibilities

• Own R&D budget management, including planning, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Build and maintain executive relationships with R&D leaders to identify and model growth initiatives.
• Support critical investment decisions and provide recommendations to optimize ROI on strategic investments.
• Prepare high-quality business analyses, insights, and ad hoc project modeling for senior executives (COO, CFO, CTO, and other stakeholders).
• Lead a small team supporting budgeting and project execution across R&D.
• Drive continuous improvement of financial processes.

Requirements

• Experience partnering with Engineering, Product, or GTM teams.
• Extensive experience in financial modeling and analysis and strong business acumen.
• Ability to assess complex business problems, develop options, and produce recommendations and action plans.
• 8+ years of experience in strategic/corporate finance, investment banking/management consulting, or at a high-growth technology company.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business or Finance.
• Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint; experience with Power BI or other data visualization tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to craft clear, precise responses.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience partnering with R&D and/or GTM organizations, preferably in technology/software with subscription/SaaS models.
• Experience leveraging AI to automate processes and improve efficiency.
