About the role
Role overview
Lead the vision, strategy, and execution of next-generation product experiences and product infrastructure through design systems and design technology at Dropbox. You will evolve Dropbox’s design system into a platform for reusable UI, accessibility standards, and documentation—while partnering across product teams to improve coherence and quality.
Key missions
- Define and lead the vision, strategy, and execution for the systems, patterns, and operating models that shape how Dropbox builds consistent, high-quality product experiences at scale.
- Oversee the evolution of Dropbox’s design system into a next-generation design platform (including core component foundations, accessibility standards, and documentation).
- Establish Design Systems and Design Technology as a center of excellence for:
- Front-end product quality
- Interaction patterns
- Accessibility standards
- Implementation standards and adoption.
Responsibilities
- Spot cross-team/product/platform patterns and turn them into reusable experience infrastructure.
- Drive improvements in critique, design standards, and product coherence through collaborative, low-ego leadership.
- Influence senior cross-functional partners and align stakeholders in ambiguous, complex problem spaces.
- Define governance and contribution models, quality standards, documentation practices, and lifecycle processes for shared systems.
- Partner with front-end engineering on component architecture, implementation standards, platform constraints, quality control, and system adoption.
- Set high craft standards across interaction design, information architecture, visual design, accessibility, prototyping, content patterns, motion, and implementation quality.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in product design, design systems/design technology, or front-end, including leading complex systems/platform initiatives at scale.
- Proven ability to connect systems work to customer value, product strategy, execution speed, and business impact.
- Deep experience scaling and transforming design systems for complex, multi-product organizations.
- Strong product judgment and influence across senior cross-functional partners.
- 5+ years of people management experience leading senior designers, managers, design technologists, or multidisciplinary systems teams.
- Strong technical fluency partnering with front-end engineering (component architecture, standards, accessibility infrastructure, quality control).
- Demonstrated design leadership and systems strategy impact through a portfolio/body of work.
- Point of view on the future of design systems, including how AI and reusable product logic should change how teams design and build.
Nice-to-haves (implied)
- Experience building or scaling design system patterns for complex domains (e.g., collaboration, content management, permissions, search, productivity, AI, administration, multi-product ecosystems).
- Deep understanding of content systems as part of the overall design system.
- Experience leading design systems/front-end platform/product infrastructure teams in large-scale, multi-product organizations.
