Director of Product Design

Role Overview

Join Clio as Director of Product Design, Foundations. You will lead key innovation areas including Design Systems, Core Experiences, and Platform Services, owning the systems and AI foundations that connect Clio’s products and define how legal professionals work in an AI-first world.

Key Missions

• Lead development and execution of high-impact product design strategies across a complex, multi-product portfolio, translating long-term visions into pragmatic roadmaps.
• Manage platform-wide patterns and cross-cutting workflows to ensure a cohesive, integrated experience across products at different stages.
• Build and mentor a world-class design organization through coaching, career development, and hiring top-tier talent.

Responsibilities (In Practice)

• Establish experimentation, learning, and validation systems to drive product iteration.
• Apply a service design mindset to connect vertical user needs with platform-level solutions.
• Lead a team of designers in conceptualizing, building, and scaling experiences across complex ecosystems.
• Weave customer evidence and stories into strategy, design decisions, and storytelling.
• Drive AI-enabled transformation of design craft and user-centered AI experiences.

Requirements

• Clear communication of complex topics to diverse audiences.
• Experience establishing experimentation/learning/validation systems, including using AI to accelerate insight generation and iteration.
• Service design mindset linking user needs with platform solutions across multiple user types.
• Demonstrated leadership of leaders; driving designers to build and scale experiences across ecosystems.
• Customer-centric approach grounded in continuous customer learning.
• Strong enterprise B2B background designing for highly technical end users across multi-stack platforms.
• Experience designing extensible platforms/ecosystems that enable safe building on shared foundations.
• Comfortable working in a self-directed culture and navigating ambiguity.
• Evidence of applying AI to both design craft and user-centered AI experiences across surfaces and interaction models.
• Track record from strategy through delivering design solutions across touchpoints.
• Strong leadership, partnership, and influencing skills; solid business acumen.
• Ability to scale solutions across short- and long-term goals.
