Director of Platform Engineering

Role overview

Lead SingleStore’s Platform Engineering organization responsible for internal engineering platforms, infrastructure services, and developer experience. Own critical platform domains and drive operational excellence across multi-cloud environments while improving reliability, scalability, security, and engineering velocity.

Responsibilities

• Set platform strategy and roadmap; partner with leadership teams to align infrastructure direction with engineering and business priorities
• Drive architecture and operational improvements for platform reliability, scalability, and security
• Mentor engineers and actively engage in troubleshooting complex infrastructure challenges
• Build and mature repeatable, scalable operational frameworks and engineering standards

Requirements

• Deep technical engineering leadership experience building and operating large-scale platform and infrastructure systems
• Proven experience designing, operating, and scaling internal engineering platforms in complex multi-cloud environments
• Expertise in internal networking and identity/access systems, including:
  • DNS and PKI
  • Identity and access management (e.g., FreeIPA, Keycloak)
• Hands-on operational experience managing and scaling critical infrastructure services, including:
  • NetBox/IPAM
  • Linux systems administration and networking
  • Infrastructure lifecycle management and operational processes
• Strong SRE/production operations background, including:
  • reliability practices (SLIs/SLOs)
  • incident management
• 10+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, DevOps, SRE, or related disciplines, with 5+ years leading engineering or infrastructure organizations
• Experience with CI/CD and release engineering systems
• Multi-cloud infrastructure experience (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Observability/monitoring and operational tooling

Nice to have

• Experience with infrastructure automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)
• Experience with developer platform tooling (e.g., Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, Argo CD)
• Experience establishing standardized automated infrastructure platforms across multiple cloud providers, including security controls and deployment workflows
• Experience implementing AI-assisted automation in infrastructure operations or developer tooling/CI/CD
• Experience with VPN and secure remote access infrastructure
• Python/Go/scripting for infrastructure automation and operational tooling
• Cloud architecture/infrastructure certifications (AWS/GCP/Azure)
• Experience managing globally distributed infrastructure
