Role Overview

Director of Mechanical Engineering (Consulting/HVAC)

Predominantly remote (global) role
15–25% travel as needed for client engagements
Leads high-impact mechanical engineering consulting engagements and distributed teams

Responsibilities

Client Leadership & Consulting Delivery

Serve as a trusted advisor to executive-level client stakeholders
Lead mechanical engineering consulting engagements from strategy through execution
Provide technical leadership across multiple projects and industries
Identify opportunities to optimize operations, reduce costs, and improve performance
Deliver technical due diligence, feasibility studies, and engineering assessments
Present recommendations to senior client leadership

Technical Leadership

Own subject matter expertise in mechanical engineering systems and design
Oversee engineering analysis, modeling, and design reviews
Ensure adherence to relevant industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements
Guide teams with innovative engineering solutions and best practices
Mentor senior engineers and technical leads

Business Development & Growth

Support proposal development and client presentations
Identify new market opportunities and service offerings
Build and expand long-term client relationships
Partner with leadership on strategic growth initiatives

Team & Practice Leadership

Lead and develop a high-performing distributed engineering team
Establish best practices, methodologies, and quality standards
Drive knowledge sharing and technical excellence
Support recruitment and talent development

Requirements

Professional Engineering Licence (PE) is non-negotiable
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
15+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience
Prior experience in engineering consulting/professional services
Demonstrated experience leading large, complex engineering projects
Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and executive communication skills
Experience working in remote/distributed teams
Ability to travel 15–25%

Preferred

Experience across multiple industries (energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, industrial, technology)
Experience leading global/cross-regional teams
MBA or advanced technical degree
Experience with digital engineering, simulation, or advanced analytics
