About the role

Role Overview

Director of Engineering (TransitOS – Demand-Responsive Solutions) is a hands-on engineering leadership role responsible for engineering delivery, technical execution, and portfolio health for demand-responsive products (e.g., OnDemand, Paratransit, NEMT, BrokerLink). The Director leads teams (~10–15 engineers, technical leads, and QA across onshore and offshore) while staying deeply engaged in architecture discussions, design/code quality, and technical decision-making.

Responsibilities

Lead high-performing teams: build, lead, coach, and develop engineering and QA teams across multiple product lines; recruit, hire, onboard, and mentor talent.
Drive technical excellence: participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and code reviews; resolve complex technical challenges; define engineering standards for code quality, testing, documentation, observability, performance, and maintainability.
Partner with TransitOS Architecture: ensure alignment with enterprise architecture and platform convergence initiatives.
Deliver high-quality software: oversee execution from planning through production deployment; lead Agile planning, sprint execution, and PI planning; coordinate dependencies across engineering teams and shared platform services.
Ensure reliability & quality: champion automated testing and modern QA practices; improve production reliability via monitoring, incident management, and operational excellence; run root-cause analysis after incidents.
Partner across the business: collaborate with Product Management/Product Owners to refine requirements and roadmap priorities; support cross-functional alignment and (as needed) strategic customer discussions.

Requirements

Demonstrated ability to lead and develop engineering/QA teams in a high-accountability culture.
Strong hands-on experience in technical design, architecture discussions, and code quality.
Proven track record delivering scalable, reliable software for mission-critical services.
Experience driving engineering standards around testing, observability, maintainability, and performance.

Nice-to-haves / Focus Areas (implied)

Experience supporting demand-responsive transportation products or complex logistics/operations domains.
Experience with onshore/offshore engineering team models and PI planning/Scaled Agile practices.
