Director of Engineering

Role Overview

Lead end-to-end software engineering as a Director of Software Engineering (Remote), reporting directly to the CTO. You’ll shape engineering strategy, drive delivery excellence, and lead a team to build scalable, customer-focused solutions.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) from planning through deployment, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
• Implement and optimize Agile practices (Scrum, Kanban) to deliver high-quality software.
• Partner with Product Management to create detailed product roadmaps and align feature delivery with business priorities.
• Define and enforce engineering best practices to improve:
  • collaboration
  • code quality
  • scalability
  • engineering efficiency
• Communicate progress, risks, and opportunities to stakeholders and align technical initiatives with business goals.
• Own end-to-end user testing and incorporate customer feedback into continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading teams while staying hands-on.
• Hands-on experience with Python and TypeScript.
• Strong background in software development practices, ideally in e-commerce or similarly high-scale digital environments.
• Experience owning architecture decisions and articulating technical investments tied to business outcomes.
• Experience with build-vs-buy decisions, managing vendor integrations, and optimizing for both speed and quality.
• Remote role; work authorization requirements apply (Canada or US).
• 1+ years startup experience; 5+ years hands-on technical leadership experience.
