About the role
Role Overview
Director of Engineering (Remote) leading and scaling a distributed engineering organization for hospital pharmacy intelligence products. This leadership role focuses on technical decision-making, engineering culture, delivery predictability, and successful growth and integration.
Responsibilities
- Lead and scale multiple product engineering teams building multi-tenant enterprise SaaS for hospital customers.
- Own people, process, and outcomes: develop engineering managers, drive accountability, and build career growth paths.
- Partner with Product leadership to maintain technical health, manage delivery risk, and ensure quality + predictability.
- Drive cross-team collaboration (including internal platform teams) to improve reuse and shared ownership.
- Mature engineering practices: planning, ADRs, documentation, quality, and metrics (delivery, developer experience, reliability).
- Manage cloud infrastructure costs at team and product level.
- Lead or support post-acquisition integrations: set standards, build trust, and accelerate time-to-cohesion.
- Participate in technical/architectural reviews and set a high bar across teams.
Requirements
- 12+ years building enterprise SaaS products, including 5+ years leading engineering organizations through growth.
- Experience leading distributed, remote-first teams of 20+ engineers through engineering managers.
- Proven scaling experience: hiring, developing managers, career frameworks, and performance management with clarity and empathy.
- Experience integrating acquired engineering teams without losing core strengths.
- Strong operator: understands engineering metrics and can diagnose and fix delivery issues without micromanaging.
- High-trust collaboration with Product, Data, and DevOps partners; ability to navigate tension constructively.
- Experience managing cloud costs at scale; comfortable with AWS-first architectures.
- High EQ, able to lead through ambiguity and drive change; can say no clearly and respectfully.
