Director of Engineering

Role Overview

Director of Engineering (Remote) overseeing delivery across multiple engineering teams for a lending platform that owns the full loan lifecycle (origination through servicing). The business is already profitable and shipping, and this role focuses on raising engineering standards without slowing delivery.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and drive execution across four engineering teams.
• Move teams onto a modern delivery pattern.
• Improve automated testing, release hygiene, and environment strategy.
• Establish sizing discipline and operational rigor.
• Roll out agentic coding tooling and raise development velocity safely.
• Maintain execution quality while working under architecture direction set by the VP of Engineering.

Requirements (Must-haves)

• 10+ years software engineering experience.
• 5+ years managing engineers.
• Led multiple squads/teams at once.
• Experience with application and product engineering (front-end and back-end) shipping customer-facing product with product management and design.
• Implemented engineering standards on teams that previously lacked them, without stopping the business.
• Experience working in a regulated environment and understanding compliance cost.
• Technical enough to read design docs and code diffs to form sound judgments.
• US-based, working Eastern or Central hours.

Nice-to-haves

• Lending/mortgage/home equity/payments/banking/brokerage domain experience.
• SOC 2 or equivalent ownership experience.
• Practical experience with DORA metrics, CI/CD quality gates, and observability.
• Experience rolling out AI coding tooling across teams.
• Experience managing distributed teams across time zones.

• Fully remote (US-based; Eastern/Central hours).
