About the role

Role Overview

Higharc is seeking a Director of Engineering, Materials to lead the engineering organization behind its materials program—turning estimation capabilities and supplier relationships into a scalable, data-driven materials marketplace. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, this role is remote within the US or Canada and works closely with Product, Sales, and external partners.

Responsibilities

Own engineering delivery across:
- Materials estimation
- Vendor/supplier integrations
- Materials marketplace (execution through longer-horizon platform strategy)
Lead through Engineering Managers and a growing team:
- Set operating rhythm, delivery culture, and technical standards for the Materials org
- Ensure predictable, reliable shipping with clear priorities and cross-functional alignment
Partner with Product to define and execute the materials marketplace roadmap, including:
- Supplier onboarding
- Catalog and SKU integrations
- Estimating workflow improvements
- BOM API expansion
Represent engineering in external supplier/vendor conversations to shape relationships and platform adoption
Hire, onboard, and develop engineers as the materials program scales
Evolve team structure and ownership boundaries as distinct product surfaces emerge

Requirements

5+ years of engineering management experience, including managing Engineering Managers and building teams from scratch
Proven ability to diagnose and improve delivery in complex, cross-functional environments
Experience owning a product area end-to-end with meaningful influence over priorities and trade-offs
Ability to lead in a domain you’re initially not an expert in, building credibility through curiosity and follow-through
Strong builder mindset focused on shipping outcomes and enabling team effectiveness
Comfort collaborating across suppliers, sales, customer success, and senior engineers

Nice to Have

Background in construction tech, proptech, procurement, supply chain, or adjacent industries
Experience building/scaling a marketplace or multi-sided platform at an early stage
