About the role
Role Overview
Director of Engineering at a partner company (for this posting). You will lead and guide a high-impact engineering team building software solutions at the intersection of automation, artificial intelligence, and spatial computing—turning complex challenges into scalable commercial products.
Responsibilities
- Set and lead engineering strategy, team development, and overall product execution while staying hands-on.
- Build and lead a high-performing engineering team; contribute to technical design, architecture, and software development.
- Drive applied R&D focused on:
- Multi-agent pathfinding
- 3D spatial routing
- OCR-based data extraction from complex technical documents
- Own the full product development lifecycle from concept/research to stable, scalable releases.
- Design and implement core platform capabilities with strong code quality, performance, and maintainability.
- Define technical direction, architecture standards, and engineering best practices for long-term growth.
- Partner with executive leadership and technical stakeholders to make strategic technology decisions.
- Mentor engineers and foster a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Navigate ambiguity by setting priorities and driving execution in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong record of hands-on contribution.
- Proven leadership experience; ability to balance leadership with deep technical problem-solving.
- Expertise in multi-agent pathfinding and routing algorithms in 2D/3D spatial environments.
- Desirable: strong knowledge of OCR, computer vision, and real-world document processing.
- Strong academic/professional foundation in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related quantitative field.
- Demonstrated ability to take commercial software from early concepts through production.
- Advanced C# development skills and strong architecture/system design capabilities.
- Experience building scalable, maintainable systems.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across executives and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States (visa sponsorship referenced).
- Occasional travel for meetings/team events.
Nice to Have
- Strong academic/professional foundation plus research-to-product experience in AI/spatial computing and document understanding.
