Director of Engineering

Role overview

As Director of Engineering, you will lead and scale multiple engineering teams building enterprise SaaS products for healthcare clients. You’ll set technical direction, improve delivery predictability and quality, and build a high-performance, trust-driven culture—working closely with Product, Data, and DevOps leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead and scale multiple engineering teams, owning people management, processes, and outcomes
• Build and sustain a high-performing engineering culture by mentoring managers, establishing career frameworks, and promoting accountability
• Partner with Product leadership to maintain technical health, manage delivery risks, and ensure products ship with quality and predictability
• Drive cross-team collaboration to improve code reuse, shared ownership, and alignment across engineering and platform teams
• Mature engineering practices, including:
  • planning
  • ADRs (architectural decision records)
  • documentation
  • quality metrics
  • developer experience
• Manage cloud infrastructure costs across teams and products to ensure efficiency and scalability
• Lead/support post-acquisition integrations, setting standards and building cohesion
• Participate in technical/architectural reviews to uphold engineering standards

Requirements

• 12+ years building enterprise SaaS products
• 5+ years leading engineering organizations through growth stages
• Experience leading distributed, remote-first teams of 20+ through engineering managers
• Proven track record scaling organizations: hiring, developing leaders, career frameworks, and performance management with clarity and empathy
• Experience with post-acquisition integrations and merging teams into cohesive cultures
• Strong operational excellence: use engineering metrics to diagnose delivery issues and solve them without micromanaging
• Excellent collaboration with Product, Data, and DevOps, including constructive navigation of tensions
• Cloud infrastructure management experience, preferably AWS-first
• High emotional intelligence; can lead through ambiguity and set clear priorities

Nice to have

• Data-intensive/event-driven architectures (e.g., Kinesis, Step Functions, Serverless)
• Healthcare or other regulated SaaS environments
• AWS cost optimization tools

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (preferred)
