Director of Engineering (Internal Platform)

Role Overview

Lead Pantheon’s Internal Platform as Director of Engineering. Own the technical direction and architectural vision for foundational initiatives, driving technical excellence across multiple teams while mentoring senior engineering leadership.

Key Missions

• Oversee the technical direction and development of foundational initiatives that improve velocity, reliability, and compliance.
• Drive technical excellence across multiple teams while shaping the platform’s architecture (balancing strategy with hands-on guidance).
• Lead and mentor a team of Engineering Managers and very senior engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
• Manage and reduce complex technical debt.

Requirements

• Proven track record delivering large-scale technical initiatives and driving organizational transformation.
• Experience delivering critical compliance initiatives, including SOC 2, PCI, ISO, and/or FedRAMP.
• 12+ years of engineering experience and 3+ years in senior roles managing other managers.
• Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and container orchestration.
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead multiple high-performing engineering teams.
• Executive-level communication skills; ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.
• Supporting AI-native development workflows, including LLM integration and agentic automation.
• Strong architectural depth: ability to drive decisions through detailed technical discussions.
• Modern development practices including CI/CD and DevOps.
• Strong programming foundation in Go, Python, or Java.
• Expert understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and cloud-native technologies.
