Director of Engineering

Role Overview

Director of Engineering for DG & Utility-Scale Energy Storage, leading the engineering function supporting distributed generation, utility-scale solar, and 5MW–20MW+ BESS projects across the Northeast. The role is remote with Northeast/EST preference and offers the opportunity to build scalable engineering processes, lead a growing team, and shape long-term technical direction (equity participation possible).

Responsibilities

• Lead and scale engineering delivery for DG, utility-scale solar, and 5MW–20MW+ BESS projects across the Northeast.
• Own the full EPC engineering lifecycle: conceptual design, detailed engineering, construction support, commissioning, and as-built completion.
• Build scalable engineering SOPs, design standards, QA/QC processes, and technical review procedures.
• Provide technical leadership for electrical power systems, including MV/HV design, interconnection, equipment selection, protection, and BESS integration.
• Partner with Development, Construction, Procurement, and external engineering firms to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and to specification.
• Lead, mentor, and grow the engineering team (starting with three direct reports) and create a culture of technical excellence and accountability.
• Support strategic engineering decisions including vendor partnerships, technology evaluation, and long-term execution strategy.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of electrical engineering experience in renewable energy (developer or EPC preferred).
• Proven delivery experience for solar and/or BESS projects from conceptual design through construction and commissioning (including third-party management).
• Strong electrical power systems background (MV/HV infrastructure, interconnection, equipment specifications, system design).
• DG and/or utility-scale renewable experience; Northeast market experience preferred.
• Experience building teams and engineering processes in a fast-growing organization.
• Entrepreneurial mindset suitable for high-growth, fast-paced environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required; PE license preferred.
