Director of Engineering (Front-End and Ordering Platform)

Role Overview

Join ezCater as the Director of Engineering (Front-End and Ordering Platform). You will lead the Experience Engineering team and own the front-end platform, ordering experience, and the end-to-end customer journey from discovery through checkout.

You will report to the VP of Engineering and oversee three teams:

• Discovery Experience
• Ordering Experience
• Front-End Platform

Key Missions

• Re-architect the front-end platform and ordering experience to ensure a seamless customer journey from discovery to checkout.
• Own the front-end platform architecture and define the path for building and deploying front-end applications using modern technologies.
• Drive AI-native front-end development, including design-to-code pipelines and AI-powered product experiences, while keeping front ends machine-readable and API-first.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering managers and develop high-performing engineering teams.
• Set and execute architectural direction for multi-team web applications using micro-frontends.
• Own the transactional customer journey across discovery, cart, checkout, and payment.
• Ensure strong performance and observability practices across production.
• Collaborate on headless commerce and integration with backend services via OpenAPI contracts and event-driven updates.

Required / Profile

• Production experience with Micro-frontend architectures, including patterns such as:
  • Multi-Zones, Module Federation, edge composition, and Islands architecture.
• Experience with design-to-code pipelines integrating tools such as Figma and AI tools like Claude Design / v0 (or similar).
• Practical AI fluency across front-end work (design-to-code workflows, AI-assisted testing, AI-powered features, plus supporting infrastructure such as component library docs, API contracts, and repository context).
• Strong design system experience (tokens, theming, cross-platform consistency, documentation for human and AI consumers).
• Deep fluency in Next.js (App Router), React, TypeScript, and modern build tooling (e.g., Turborepo, Rspack), with hands-on architectural credibility.
• Expertise in Core Web Vitals, real user monitoring, and enforcing performance budgets in CI.
• Ownership experience covering BFF architectures, multiple customer types, and ordering modes on a single platform.
• Demonstrated experience standing up front-end engineering organizations.
• Experience with Cloudflare (Workers, reverse proxy, CDN optimization) for edge-based routing.
• Familiarity with backend technologies your front end consumes, such as Go, Kafka/MSK, Temporal, or PostgreSQL.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience unifying internal tools under a shared MFE shell.
• Agentic/AI-powered commerce experiences and composition strategies per journey stage (e.g., CSS isolation, state sharing, auth propagation, SSR vs. CSR, contract testing).

Travel

• Ability to travel up to 5 days per quarter for Together Weeks and team events (when applicable).
