Director of Engineering

Role Overview

Director of Engineering at Flex (100% remote within the United States). You will lead a team of 7–10 engineers across platform, mobile, and web. Reporting to the Chief Product and Technology Officer, you will drive engineering strategy, architecture, talent, and delivery excellence while partnering closely with Product, Design, Data, and other teams.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture decisions and technology roadmap across Flex’s product suite (long-term initiatives + short-term quick wins).
• Hire, manage, and retain top software engineering talent.
• Unblock the team through effective prioritization and hands-on leadership through technical challenges.
• Raise software quality standards continuously (design, code quality, and overall engineering rigor).
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Management, Design, Data, and internal teams to maximize product value.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external integration partners.

Requirements

• 8+ years of IC experience with hands-on development, with performance at a Principal Architect level.
• 5+ years of people management experience, including experience as Head of Engineering at company level or Director of Engineering for core consumer-facing products.
• Strong understanding of software engineering practices (design, code quality, data structures, technical problem solving).
• Ability to think strategically and tactically and manage competing priorities in an Agile environment.
• Track record of delivering complex projects end-to-end (ideation → business results).
• Ability to work effectively with geographically distributed teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Proficiency with at least part of the stack: React, React Native, Next.js, Python.

Preferred

• Experience developing products on both sides of a marketplace platform.
• Experience integrating with CRM, CDP, and customer service platforms.
• Experience building enterprise-level integrations.
