Director of Engineering

Role Overview

Director of Data Engineering leading the strategy, modernization, and delivery of enterprise data platforms for a highly regulated US healthcare organization. You’ll build scalable data capabilities, strengthen engineering standards, and ensure trusted data is available across analytics, operational, and customer-facing platforms.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead the enterprise data engineering strategy aligned to business and technology objectives
• Oversee design, development, and modernization of scalable cloud-based data platforms
• Lead migration of legacy data environments into modern Azure architectures
• Build reliable data pipelines, integration frameworks, and reusable engineering capabilities
• Partner with Product, Analytics, Architecture, and business leaders to deliver trusted data
• Establish engineering standards for data quality, observability, testing, performance, and security
• Influence roadmap prioritization across data platforms, APIs, integrations, and analytics tooling
• Lead, mentor, and grow a large high-performing organization of data engineers and technical leaders
• Establish HIPAA/PHI-compliant governance (access controls, masking, secure handling)
• Improve platform reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency across the enterprise data estate
• Translate complex technical issues into executive recommendations and investment priorities
• Drive measurable business value via improved data availability, quality, and engineering delivery

Requirements

• Senior leadership experience in Data Engineering, Data Platforms, or Enterprise Data Architecture
• Proven experience building and leading large, multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Deep expertise in cloud data platforms, with strong preference for Azure
• Experience modernizing legacy data environments and delivering large-scale cloud migrations
• Expertise in data pipelines, APIs, integration architecture, and distributed data platforms
• Experience in healthcare, insurance, or another highly regulated industry
• Strong understanding of HIPAA, PHI, data security, and enterprise governance
• Track record improving data quality, platform reliability, and engineering standards
• Ability to operate effectively at both executive and technical levels
• Exceptional communication and stakeholder influence skills

• Location: Remote with quarterly travel
• Type: Full time
• Compensation: Up to $275,000 base salary per year
