About the role
Role: Director of Engineering, Data Products
Lead the Data Products engineering pillar and serve as the technical engine for Counterpart Health’s clinical-data foundation.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical strategy and execution for the Data Products roadmap.
- Drive clinical data ingestion, including ingestion pipeline optimization and scalability.
- Lead canonical data modeling and the evolution of standardized clinical storage and data hygiene.
- Oversee scaling of customer data onboarding processes and continuously improve:
- data quality/data integrity (“data hygiene”)
- canonical storage standards
- observability and monitoring for data pipelines
- Enable shared funnel visibility across the organization and support an enterprise reporting framework.
- Ensure the Data Products platform leverages healthcare standards (e.g., FHIR, LOINC, RxNorm) to translate clinical data foundations into business outcomes.
- Partner with cross-functional leaders (VP Engineering, Product, Data Science, Design) to deliver platform capabilities for clinical insight generation.
- Drive adoption of an AI-powered SDLC to accelerate coding, testing, and deployment while maintaining code quality and security.
Success Metrics
- Improved clinical data coverage and data freshness targets across all patient populations.
- Predictable, repeatable multi-customer scaling using standardized playbooks.
- Broad adoption of the Data Products platform and capabilities.
- A robust, stable data infrastructure that can serve as a reliable source of truth during growth.
Requirements
- 10+ years of engineering experience building high-scale data platforms and distributed systems.
- Strong focus on interoperability standards, including FHIR and clinical data standards (e.g., CCDA).
- Proven experience leading and scaling engineering teams handling data-heavy workloads and complex clinical pipelines.
- Experience delivering complex software in regulated environments.
- Experience implementing/scaling AI-assisted development workflows (AI code assistants, automated testing, AI-driven SDLC).
- Demonstrated experience operating in highly regulated healthcare environments with practical knowledge of HIPAA and SOC 2.
- Passion for healthcare and improving patient outcomes through technology.
