About the role

Role Overview

Director of Engineering for the Data Products pillar at Counterpart Health (within Clover Health). You will lead the technical strategy and execution for the clinical data foundation, manage high-scale clinical data ingestion, and drive adoption of an AI-powered SDLC.

Key Missions / Responsibilities

  • Own the technical strategy and delivery for the Data Products roadmap, including:
    • clinical data ingestion
    • canonical data modeling
    • ingestion scalability
  • Manage and optimize the clinical data ingestion pipeline and scale customer data onboarding.
  • Drive adoption of an AI-powered Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to improve engineering productivity.
  • Improve clinical data coverage and freshness targets across patient populations.
  • Ensure broad adoption of the Data Products platform and its capabilities.
  • Lead cross-functional engineering execution in a regulated healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading cross-functional engineering teams delivering complex software in regulated environments.
  • 10+ years engineering experience with a deep focus on:
    • high-scale data platforms
    • distributed systems
    • interoperability standards such as FHIR and CCDA
  • Experience implementing and scaling AI-assisted development workflows, such as:
    • AI code assistants
    • automated testing
    • AI-driven SDLC
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and scale data-heavy workloads and complex clinical data pipelines.
  • Strong operational ownership and willingness to address sustainability and operational gaps.
  • Deep familiarity with clinical datasets, including lack of standardization and improving data integrity.
  • Experience operating in highly regulated healthcare environments with strong understanding of HIPAA and SOC 2.
  • Ability to build a high-performance engineering culture emphasizing velocity, quality, and psychological safety.
  • Strategic resource allocation, capacity planning, and technical debt management.
  • Track record hiring and developing engineering leadership (engineering managers, Tech Leads, Principal Engineers).
  • Organizational change leadership (e.g., structural re-orgs, process evolution).
  • Exceptional stakeholder management; translate technical constraints into business strategies (e.g., impact on HEDIS/RADV outcomes).

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with healthcare metrics/outcomes tied to data product improvements (e.g., HEDIS/RADV).
