Director of Engineering

Role Overview

Join Alchemy as Director of Engineering, Infrastructure & Platform. You will own the vision, strategy, and execution of the company’s core platform—driving reliability, performance, and cost efficiency while partnering closely with Product and Executive Leadership.

Key Missions

• Define and own platform & infrastructure strategy, ensuring scalability, reliability, performance, and cost efficiency across the organization.
• Lead and grow multiple engineering teams, including:
  • Cloud infrastructure
  • Platform
  • Data platform
  • Internal tools
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Security, Finance, and Executive Leadership to align platform investment with business goals and customer needs.
• Build and mentor engineering leaders and shape Alchemy’s engineering culture; drive execution excellence.

Responsibilities

• Set long-term technical direction for platform infrastructure.
• Lead org-wide planning and execution for critical production infrastructure.
• Balance speed, quality, and long-term technical health while shipping impactful solutions.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in distributed systems.
• 5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including managing managers and leading orgs responsible for critical production infrastructure at a high-growth startup.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and strong cross-functional collaboration.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to operate in ambiguity end-to-end.
• Hands-on understanding of large-scale distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.

Nice to Have

• Strong preference for experience with Java, Kubernetes (K8s), AWS, multi-region, and multi-cloud.
• Passion for platforms that enable others; curiosity about emerging technologies (crypto, AI, complex systems).

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering (or equivalent experience).
