About the role

Role overview

Director of Design (fully remote in the United States) for a partner company in a mission-driven healthcare environment. You will define and scale an end-to-end design vision, partnering with product and engineering leaders to create consistent, high-quality user experiences with a strong focus on empathy, safety, and accessibility.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute a long-term design vision that blends advanced technology with a user-centered experience
  • Build and scale design systems and frameworks that enable engineering teams to deliver autonomously
  • Establish design principles and governance to ensure alignment, accessibility, and safety across all digital touchpoints
  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary design organization; foster research-led, collaborative continuous improvement
  • Integrate AI and modern design tools into the design process to improve efficiency and innovation
  • Apply research methodologies and data-driven practices grounded in user needs and clinical insights
  • Collaborate cross-functionally (product, engineering, marketing, leadership) to unify the user experience ecosystem
  • Oversee design operations including resource planning, budgeting, and prioritization

Requirements

  • 8+ years product design experience, including leadership roles scaling teams and design systems
  • Strong systems thinking ability to create scalable frameworks across complex product ecosystems
  • Proven experience leading design with both technical complexity and human-centered outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI and modern design tools to improve workflows and delivery
  • Strategic judgment balancing business objectives, technical constraints, and user safety
  • Experience influencing senior leadership and driving alignment on long-term design strategy
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Background in healthcare or regulated environments
  • Knowledge of compliance/accessibility standards such as HIPAA and accessibility guidelines
