Director of Data Science

Role Overview

As Director of Data Science at Abridge, you will build and lead a world-class data science organization, define and execute a comprehensive data strategy, and drive product strategy using data-driven insights.

Key Missions

• Build and manage a high-performing data science team, providing guidance, mentorship, and high standards.
• Drive product strategy through:
  • User behavior analysis
  • Experimentation involving causal inference for inference-driven decisions
• Partner with Research to:
  • Evaluate models
  • Define and maintain quality metrics that impact clinical outcomes
• Make critical technical infrastructure decisions and align the data strategy with executive stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate cross-functionally and communicate the data strategy effectively to the executive team.
• Build data capabilities from early stages through rapid growth, partnering closely with Data Engineering and Machine Learning.
• Recruit, develop, and support analytics engineering capabilities.

Requirements

• 12+ years in data science or analytics, preferably in product-facing roles where you shaped product strategy and execution using data.
• MS or PhD in a quantitative field (statistics, mathematics, computer science, physics, or related).
• Strong leadership: ability to build teams, drive urgency, and prioritize effectively in a fast-growth environment.
• Excellent communication skills to deliver quantitative findings to non-technical stakeholders.
• Deep experience with Python, R, and SQL for large-scale analytics.
• Experience with data visualization tools including:
  • BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, Sigma)
  • Code-based visualization (e.g., Seaborn, ggplot2)
• Experience shaping Analytics Engineering (recruiting and supporting).
• Healthcare domain knowledge, including EHR (electronic health records) and healthcare billing.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience defining causal experimentation approaches tied to inference quality for clinical impact.
