Director of Data (m/f/d)

Role Overview

Director of Data (m/f/d) reporting to the CTO. You will own Moonfare’s data strategy and execution and lead the combined Data Engineering and Analytics function at a pivotal stage of growth.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute Moonfare’s data strategy, building platforms, pipelines, and data governance for reliable, scalable, intelligent data.
• Lead a team of 6 across data engineering, analytics, and architecture, forming one cohesive function with shared rituals and standards.
• Architect and build infrastructure that sources, structures, and serves data across investment, investor relations, operations, and compliance.
• Partner with Engineering and Product to make data the substrate for AI/agentic capabilities, enabling self-serve reporting and operational intelligence.
• Stay hands-on with technical details: architecture reviews, design decisions, and pipeline trade-offs; represent data credibly to executives and the Board.
• Embed compliance and regulatory thinking across all layers of the data platform for a regulated financial services environment.

Requirements

• Deep, hands-on expertise across data engineering, AI, architecture, and data pipelines.
• Experience building or significantly evolving a modern data platform in a regulated financial services environment, with strong understanding of compliance, auditability, and data quality.
• Strong opinions and practical experience on what modern AI/agentic systems need from a data function.
• Experienced people leader who can unify or scale multi-disciplinary data teams (engineers, analysts, architects).
• Thrives in fast-moving, high-ambiguity scale-up environments; comfortable owning both strategy and a meaningful share of technical work.
• Credible cross-functional partner for executives and stakeholders, translating between business outcomes and technical reality.
