About the role
Role Overview
Join Amplify as Director of Data & Analytics Engineering in a strategic and hands-on leadership role. You will lead the development of scalable data platforms, pipelines, and models that help teams make data-informed decisions. You will also build and grow a high-performing team of managers and engineers.
Responsibilities
- Lead data platform, pipeline, and model development to enable organization-wide data-driven decision making.
- Own and guide architectural decisions, including innovative architectures and technology stack choices.
- Lead people and team growth: coaching, mentoring, career development, and building a strong leadership bench.
- Partner cross-functionally with data science, AI, product, and engineering teams.
- Improve data observability and reliability, proactively monitoring pipeline health and data quality.
- Drive multi-year strategy and planning (e.g., annual OKRs and roadmaps) across multiple teams.
Requirements
- 10+ years in data engineering, analytics engineering, or related fields, with hands-on experience in a modern data stack.
- ETL/ELT pipeline design and data modeling, including data platform architecture.
- Experience with BI tools such as Looker and Tableau.
- Strong skills with modern tooling, including dbt, Snowflake, SQL, Python, and Terraform.
- People management: 5+ years managing teams, including 3+ years managing managers.
- Experience with data observability and reliability tools (e.g., Monte Carlo, dbt tests, Great Expectations).
- Excellent communication with non-technical stakeholders.
Nice-to-haves
- Familiarity with agentic coding tools and AI-assisted development workflows (e.g., Claude Code, Snowflake Cortex).
- Experience with metadata management tools (e.g., Atlan).
- Knowledge of lakehouse data modeling paradigms, including Kimball dimensional modeling and one-big-table (OBT).
- Exposure to emerging agentic analytics tools (e.g., natural language querying, text-to-analytics).
- Experience in education/ed-tech.
- Demonstrated curiosity via open-source contributions, personal projects, or ongoing education.
