About the role

Role Overview

Director of IT Architecture (100% Remote, US) reporting to the Sr. Director of IT Technology. Lead the overall IT architecture strategy for a growing healthcare organization, aligning technical design with business goals, clinical needs, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Technology Roadmap
    • Define and execute an IT architecture strategy aligned with business, clinical, and operational goals.
    • Lead a team of IT Network, Cloud, and Systems Architects; ensure collaboration and efficiency.
    • Establish and enforce IT governance, standards, and best practices to ensure compliance (HIPAA, HITECH, HITRUST, etc.).
    • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies such as microservices, AI, and ML.
    • Drive infrastructure architecture for high availability, scalability, and performance, backed by strong ROI thinking.
  • Architectural Leadership & Implementation
    • Own Network Architecture for secure, reliable, high-performance healthcare connectivity and data exchange.
    • Own Cloud Architecture, including hybrid and multi-cloud approaches, ensuring compliance, cost optimization, and interoperability with on-prem systems.
    • Guide Systems Architecture for core business/healthcare applications, including EHR/EMR (Epic), with robust security and integration.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Translate business and clinical needs into architecture strategies; partner with IT leadership and stakeholders.
    • Partner with IT Security to develop and enforce security frameworks protecting patient data.
    • Partner with Cloud teams to implement automation and tooling (e.g., CloudFormation, AWS CDK, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins).
    • Coordinate with vendors, system integrators, and cloud service providers to optimize technology investments.
  • Performance Management & Risk Mitigation
    • Define KPIs and metrics for architecture initiative effectiveness.
    • Identify and mitigate risks across network vulnerabilities, cloud security, and system failures.
    • Optimize IT spend and continuously assess performance and scalability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Healthcare Informatics, or related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive IT architecture experience (details beyond this are truncated in the posting).

  • Familiarity with healthcare interoperability and regulatory frameworks (HIPAA/HITECH/HITRUST).
  • Experience architecting secure enterprise healthcare environments and working with Epic (EHR/EMR).
