Director, Engineering - Platform

Role Overview

Director of Engineering – Platform for a fast-growing technology organization building scalable platform capabilities that power products used by millions worldwide. This is a leadership role in a fully remote environment, partnering with product, architecture, and operations leaders to balance near-term customer needs with long-term platform strategy.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor multiple engineering teams building and maintaining the core platform supporting a portfolio of products and services
• Define and drive the technical roadmap, architecture strategy, and engineering best practices for scalability, reliability, and performance
• Establish continuous improvement through modern engineering methodologies, development processes, and AI-assisted software delivery practices
• Recruit, develop, and retain engineering talent; coach engineering managers and support leadership growth
• Set performance expectations, provide feedback, and drive accountability via measurable outcomes
• Monitor engineering effectiveness; optimize team structures and workflows to improve delivery velocity without sacrificing quality
• Partner cross-functionally with product, architecture, operations, and technical leadership to align priorities and execution
• Drive innovation across platform capabilities while ensuring technical sustainability
• Champion scalable delivery practices, Site Reliability principles, developer experience improvements, and operational excellence

Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering leadership experience scaling modern SaaS products and technology platforms
• 5+ years in a Director-level (or higher) role managing multiple engineering teams and leaders
• Strong expertise in platform engineering, distributed systems, scalable architectures, Site Reliability Engineering, and developer productivity initiatives
• Experience leading large-scale high-volume systems with a focus on performance, availability, and operational excellence
• Proven success hiring, mentoring, and developing engineering managers and high-performing orgs
• Demonstrated ability to partner with product and architecture to define and execute shared technical and business strategies
• Experience implementing modern software development practices, including AI-powered engineering tools and workflow optimization
• Deep understanding of iterative delivery, organizational design, engineering metrics, and continuous improvement methodologies
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; able to influence across all levels of the organization
• Prior experience in fully remote or distributed engineering environments

Compensation & Benefits

• Competitive base salary: $240,000 – $300,000 USD
