Role Overview

Director - Data Engineering (Remote, India)

Lead and scale the organization’s data engineering function by driving data strategy, architecture, and execution. Build robust, scalable data platforms that power analytics, machine learning, and business intelligence across the business.

Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and optimization of scalable data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses.
Define and implement data engineering strategy aligned to business goals and growth.
Architect modern cloud data platforms using AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Drive data engineering best practices across:
- data modeling
- ETL/ELT processes
- data governance and data quality management
Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to enable data-driven decisions.
Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing data engineering team.
Oversee large-scale data integration for structured and unstructured sources.
Ensure data security, compliance, and privacy standards.
Evaluate and adopt new tools, frameworks, and technologies.
Set performance benchmarks and improve reliability, scalability, and efficiency.

Requirements

Strong fundamentals in data engineering: distributed processing, data architecture, and pipeline optimization.
Hands-on experience with big data tools: Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, Airflow.
Proficiency in SQL, Python, and/or Scala or Java.
Cloud data platform experience (e.g., AWS Redshift, BigQuery, Azure Data Factory).
Experience with real-time and batch processing.
Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and data lake architectures.
Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
Ability to design systems for high volume/velocity/variety.

Leadership & Behavioral

Experience leading and scaling data engineering teams in fast-paced environments.
Strong stakeholder management and ability to translate technical concepts into business value.
Strategic problem-solving with attention to detail.
Ability to drive cross-functional collaboration at senior levels.

Preferred Qualifications

B.S./M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
Experience building data platforms for AI/ML initiatives (plus).
Prior leadership experience in high-growth or enterprise environments.
