About the role
Role Overview
Rackner is seeking a DevSecOps (Kubernetes) Engineer SME to support a US Air Force program (Platform One) working on Big Bang, a Platform as a Service (PaaS) tooling environment. Big Bang enables mission application owners to deploy a PaaS in their own Kubernetes clusters running in a cloud or datacenter, with built-in cybersecurity/governance, collaboration tools, and plugins.
Responsibilities
- Build DevSecOps platforms used by mission application owners.
- Create and update Kubernetes clusters using Terraform.
- Deploy applications to Kubernetes clusters by authoring and updating Helm charts.
- Work across multiple Kubernetes distributions (e.g., RKE2, EKS, OpenShift, VMware Tanzu), learning differences as needed.
- Develop and use Kubernetes operators and CRDs (self-teach as required).
- Apply automation best practices using IaC and GitOps for repeatable, fast environment provisioning.
- Ensure platform and pipelines are compliant with DoD cybersecurity policies including NIST 800-53 / RMF and STIGs.
- Collaborate with the Cybersecurity team on system hardening and configuration management.
Requirements
- US Citizen with Secret eligibility.
- 3+ years of Kubernetes experience in production environments.
- Experience with Kubernetes distributions (e.g., RKE2, EKS, OpenShift, VMware Tanzu).
- 3+ years of Terraform experience.
- Helm experience.
- Docker (or other container technologies) experience.
Nice to Have
- Background with defense customers (highly preferable).
