About the role

Role Overview

DevSecOps Engineer (Configuration & Release Management SME) for the HDM Program supporting the Department of Veteran Affairs. The role will partner with development teams to deploy via Jenkins, improve automation, and advance release/configuration practices using GitHub Enterprise and Git Flow.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and implement GitHub Enterprise and Git Flow processes for 180+ developers (versioning, tagging, branching strategies, Git scripting).
  • Create centralized version control strategies using Git Flow and standard Git practices.
  • Enhance branch automation for software releases.
  • Collaborate with project teams to produce build/release schedules and own packaging/build processes.
  • Perform code synchronization across environments (e.g., dev/preprod/prod).
  • Mature CI/CD in Jenkins by incorporating automated testing.
  • Provide first-line support to development teams using Jenkins.
  • Help teams replace manual steps with automation (e.g., scripting changes instead of manual application; proper use of config scripts).
  • Research and support process improvements, including adoption of automation and AI.
  • Participate in program meetings (e.g., CM Scrum, HDM daily touchbase, CRB, weekly deployments).
  • Support after-hours deployments (about one night per week on average).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years in DevSecOps and CI/CD/automation tooling.
  • Strong development background with multiple tooling/techniques/platforms.
  • Subject matter expertise in Jenkins deployments.
  • Subject matter expertise with GitHub and manual deployments via SSH.
  • JavaScript development experience.
  • Familiarity with UNIX environments and navigating Git/Bash scripts.
  • Experience with tools across platforms/environments (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub, Jira, AI).
  • Ability to communicate clearly with client/team members and document/present findings.
  • Strong teamwork skills and high attention to detail.

Additional Qualifications (Nice to Have)

  • Experience with SAFe/Agile.
  • Ability to obtain Federal Government clearance.
  • Familiarity with VA environment.
  • Familiarity with HealthShare Management Portal.
  • InterSystems HealthShare/HealthConnect experience.

  • Remote opportunity; candidate must reside within the continental US.
