About the role

Role Overview

As a DevOps Engineer V at Availity, you will lead the design, implementation, operation, and ongoing support of cloud-native infrastructure and container orchestration platforms. The primary focus is Kubernetes on AWS EKS, with an emphasis on reliability, scalability, automation, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Kubernetes & Platform Engineering
    • Design, deploy, and operate production-grade Kubernetes clusters (primarily AWS EKS)
    • Build and maintain containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes best practices
    • Define and enforce standards for containerization, deployment patterns, and cluster operations
    • Architect highly available, fault-tolerant platform solutions
  • Infrastructure & Automation
    • Provision and manage cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform/CloudFormation)
  • CI/CD & Platform Enablement
    • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
    • Enable application teams through self-service and platform capabilities
  • Observability & Operational Excellence
    • Improve monitoring/observability practices to support performance and incident response
  • Leadership & Collaboration
    • Partner with Cloud Architecture, Security, and Engineering teams to modernize infrastructure
    • Serve as a senior technical leader: contribute to architecture decisions and mentor engineers
    • Ensure alignment with security, compliance, and operational standards

Requirements

  • 7+ years progressive experience in cloud, DevOps, or platform engineering
  • Hands-on Kubernetes production cluster operations experience
  • Strong experience with AWS, including Amazon EKS
  • Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform, Terragrunt, CloudFormation)
  • CI/CD pipeline experience (GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
  • Observability/monitoring experience (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or similar)
  • Strong scripting/automation (Python, Bash, or similar)
  • Git-based workflows/version control best practices
  • Troubleshooting, performance tuning, and root cause analysis
  • Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum

Nice to Have / Preferred

  • AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or Kubernetes certifications like CKA/CKAD)
  • Kubernetes security best practices (RBAC, network policies, secrets management)
  • Service mesh experience (Istio, Linkerd)
  • Multi-cluster or hybrid Kubernetes environments
