About the role
Role Overview
As a DevOps Engineer V at Availity, you will lead the design, implementation, operation, and ongoing support of cloud-native infrastructure and container orchestration platforms. The primary focus is Kubernetes on AWS EKS, with an emphasis on reliability, scalability, automation, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Kubernetes & Platform Engineering
- Design, deploy, and operate production-grade Kubernetes clusters (primarily AWS EKS)
- Build and maintain containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes best practices
- Define and enforce standards for containerization, deployment patterns, and cluster operations
- Architect highly available, fault-tolerant platform solutions
- Infrastructure & Automation
- Provision and manage cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform/CloudFormation)
- CI/CD & Platform Enablement
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
- Enable application teams through self-service and platform capabilities
- Observability & Operational Excellence
- Improve monitoring/observability practices to support performance and incident response
- Leadership & Collaboration
- Partner with Cloud Architecture, Security, and Engineering teams to modernize infrastructure
- Serve as a senior technical leader: contribute to architecture decisions and mentor engineers
- Ensure alignment with security, compliance, and operational standards
Requirements
- 7+ years progressive experience in cloud, DevOps, or platform engineering
- Hands-on Kubernetes production cluster operations experience
- Strong experience with AWS, including Amazon EKS
- Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform, Terragrunt, CloudFormation)
- CI/CD pipeline experience (GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
- Observability/monitoring experience (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or similar)
- Strong scripting/automation (Python, Bash, or similar)
- Git-based workflows/version control best practices
- Troubleshooting, performance tuning, and root cause analysis
- Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum
Nice to Have / Preferred
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or Kubernetes certifications like CKA/CKAD)
- Kubernetes security best practices (RBAC, network policies, secrets management)
- Service mesh experience (Istio, Linkerd)
- Multi-cluster or hybrid Kubernetes environments
