About the role
Role Overview
DevOps Engineer (Remote, United States) to maintain and extend the Zapp Store platform. You will own parts of the deployment lifecycle, routing/authentication integration, CI/CD automation, and monitoring/observability for containerized services.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and extend the Zapp Store platform, including:
- Service deployments
- Routing and reverse proxy configuration
- Authentication integration
- Container lifecycle management
- Improve and scale deployment patterns for containerized applications (Docker/Podman/Apptainer, Compose, and future Kubernetes).
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions for continuous deployment to the platform.
- Extend and operate monitoring/observability (including Prometheus and Grafana, plus Traefik metrics).
- Develop tooling and automation to onboard new applications to the platform.
- Support hybrid deployment strategies bridging on-prem Zapp Store with Azure cloud services.
- Implement consistent configuration and secrets management patterns across environments.
- Document runbooks, SOPs, and architecture decisions.
- Reduce manual operational burden via automation.
Requirements
- 5+ years in DevOps, platform engineering, or infrastructure engineering.
- Strong Linux systems experience (not a sysadmin role; no patching/OS-level maintenance).
- Production Docker and container orchestration experience (experience with Podman and/or Apptainer is a plus).
- CI/CD pipeline development (GitHub Actions preferred).
- Reverse proxy and service routing experience (e.g., Traefik, nginx).
- Automation scripting with Bash and Python.
- Familiarity with identity/auth systems (e.g., Keycloak, OAuth2, OIDC).
- Basic SQL competency.
Nice to Have
- Kubernetes (on-prem or AKS).
- Infrastructure-as-Code: Terraform and/or Ansible.
- Azure CLI or internal tooling development in Python/C/Rust (or similar).
- Monitoring stack experience (Prometheus/Grafana) and metrics integration.
- Life sciences or R&D environment experience.
