About the role

Role Overview

Join Sphinx’s Space Communications team as a DevOps Engineer. You’ll help build and improve a communications platform used for US government satellites, partnering with a small, engineering-focused team where you’ll have significant influence over tools, processes, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Maintain and support AWS-based Kubernetes (EKS) infrastructure and associated services
Ensure reliability, availability, and security across cloud environments
Build, implement, and optimize GitLab CI/CD pipelines to streamline delivery
Develop and manage Terraform (IaC) modules for scalable deployments
Create and maintain Helm charts for Kubernetes applications
Troubleshoot infrastructure/platform/application issues across AWS and Kubernetes
Manage AWS IAM, cross-account access, and security policies
Collaborate with software and platform engineering teams for operational needs and enhancements
Improve performance, automation, observability, and operational efficiency
Participate in on-call rotations and respond to operational incidents

Qualifications

Proven experience supporting production AWS EKS environments
Strong experience with GitLab CI/CD pipeline development, maintenance, and optimization
Hands-on Infrastructure as Code with Terraform
Experience creating/deploying Helm charts for Kubernetes
Strong knowledge of AWS IAM, role-based access control, and cross-account access
Ability to troubleshoot services across AWS and Kubernetes
Automation skills using Python or Go for operational support and tooling
Strong communication and collaborative problem-solving
