About the role
Role Overview
Join Sphinx’s Space Communications team as a DevOps Engineer. You’ll help build and improve a communications platform used for US government satellites, partnering with a small, engineering-focused team where you’ll have significant influence over tools, processes, and infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and support AWS-based Kubernetes (EKS) infrastructure and associated services
- Ensure reliability, availability, and security across cloud environments
- Build, implement, and optimize GitLab CI/CD pipelines to streamline delivery
- Develop and manage Terraform (IaC) modules for scalable deployments
- Create and maintain Helm charts for Kubernetes applications
- Troubleshoot infrastructure/platform/application issues across AWS and Kubernetes
- Manage AWS IAM, cross-account access, and security policies
- Collaborate with software and platform engineering teams for operational needs and enhancements
- Improve performance, automation, observability, and operational efficiency
- Participate in on-call rotations and respond to operational incidents
Qualifications
- Proven experience supporting production AWS EKS environments
- Strong experience with GitLab CI/CD pipeline development, maintenance, and optimization
- Hands-on Infrastructure as Code with Terraform
- Experience creating/deploying Helm charts for Kubernetes
- Strong knowledge of AWS IAM, role-based access control, and cross-account access
- Ability to troubleshoot services across AWS and Kubernetes
- Automation skills using Python or Go for operational support and tooling
- Strong communication and collaborative problem-solving
