About the role

Role overview

As a DevOps Engineer at Sardine, you’ll evolve the infrastructure and platform tooling that supports a growing engineering team. This is a hands-on role focused on deployment, observability, developer productivity, and cloud cost management.

Responsibilities

Own and evolve DevOps/platform engineering: build & deployment pipelines, monitoring, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines that are secure, scalable, and support rapid iteration without sacrificing stability
Improve observability using Datadog and GCP, including custom dashboards and FinOps-focused observability
Implement FinOps governance (e.g., showback/chargeback) to drive cost accountability across engineering teams
Enable developer productivity with internal tooling, reusable modules, and simplified infrastructure for other teams
Help teams define and measure SLOs to standardize system health and reliability
Act as a FinOps thought leader, partnering with Product/Engineering to choose cost-effective architectural patterns
Shape engineering culture and DevOps best practices; influence the long-term DevOps roadmap
Work cross-functionally with Security and Finance to align technical spending with business economics

Requirements

6+ years in DevOps, SRE, or software engineering roles (preferably in high-growth startup environments)
Proficiency in Python or Go, with strong software engineering fundamentals
Proven ownership of production infrastructure and platform tooling; strong debugging and ability to troubleshoot complex distributed systems
Demonstrated experience building highly secure and robust infrastructure, especially in stringent regulatory environments

Nice-to-haves

Deep experience with cloud cost management and FinOps governance
Familiarity with SLO practices and reliability engineering
Experience improving platform resilience and automation
