About the role
Role Overview
The DevOps Engineer supports reliable, scalable, and secure delivery pipelines across Universal Background Screening’s platform ecosystem. This is a US-based remote role focused on automating deployments, hardening environments, and integrating security practices into CI/CD (DevSecOps).
Responsibilities
DevOps & Infrastructure
- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for continuous delivery across multiple environments.
- Manage and optimize cloud infrastructure on AWS (or Azure), including compute, networking, storage, and managed services.
- Automate operational tasks (provisioning, configuration management, patching, monitoring) using tools like Ansible.
- Support containerized workloads with Docker and Kubernetes or ECS.
- Monitor system health, set up alerting, and participate in incident response and root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with development and QA to improve build reliability, deployment frequency, and system resilience.
Information Security (DevSecOps)
- Apply cloud security best practices (e.g., IAM least-privilege, secrets management, network segmentation).
- Assist with vulnerability scanning, patch management, and remediation tracking.
- Implement compliance-aligned controls using frameworks such as SOC 2, NIST, or ISO 27001.
- Integrate security tooling into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., SAST, DAST, dependency scanning).
- Participate in security reviews, threat modeling, and risk assessments.
- Manage and audit access controls, certificates, and secrets using AWS Secrets Manager or HashiCorp Vault.
- Support security incident response, log analysis, and forensic investigations when needed.
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on DevOps or platform engineering experience.
- Strong AWS experience (e.g., EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, etc.).
- Proficiency with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GitLab CI.
- Containerization and orchestration experience (Docker, Kubernetes/ECS).
- Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Infrastructure as Code knowledge (Terraform preferred).
- Foundational information security and secure configuration practices (network security included).
- Experience with secrets management and access control concepts.
- Logging/observability familiarity (CloudWatch, Datadog, Splunk, or similar).
Preferred Qualifications
- Security certification/coursework (e.g., CompTIA Security+, AWS Security Specialty, or equivalent).
- Experience with vulnerability scanning tools (Qualys, Tenable, Snyk, etc.).
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC 2, HIPAA, NIST, CIS Benchmarks).
- Experience implementing automated security gates in pipelines (DevSecOps).
- Background in regulated industries (healthcare, financial services, background screening).
- Exposure to SIEM tools and security event log management.
- Experience with onshore/offshore distributed teams.

- Must be proficient in English (written and verbal).
