DevOps Engineer

Role Overview

Full-time remote role for a DevOps Engineer responsible for maintaining and improving an AWS-hosted infrastructure and ensuring reliability, uptime, observability, and operational security.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and support Ubuntu-based and Amazon EC2 instances running NGINX/PHP
• Manage NGINX (and Apache) virtual hosts, reverse proxy configuration, and web server access/error logs
• Tune and maintain PHP runtime configuration, PHP-FPM pools, extensions, worker/memory limits, and timeouts
• Troubleshoot application, web server, and OS-level issues impacting uptime and performance
• Monitor instance health (CPU, memory, disk, network, processes) using CloudWatch and New Relic
• Configure CloudWatch alarms, dashboards, log groups, and alerting
• Maintain New Relic APM for PHP monitoring (transaction tracing, error tracking, performance visibility)
• Manage Amazon RDS (MySQL) health: connectivity, storage, CPU/memory, slow queries, backups, and maintenance
• Support database performance troubleshooting with developers
• Use AWS Systems Manager / Patch Manager (patch baselines/groups, maintenance windows, scan and install schedules)
• Track and remediate compliance issues across the EC2 fleet
• Maintain secure access using IAM roles, security groups, least-privilege and controlled admin access
• Support deployment processes and rollbacks
• Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis for outages and degraded performance

Required Skills

• Strong Linux administration experience (preferably Ubuntu)
• Hands-on experience managing EC2 and load balancing/auto-scaling components (ALB/ASG)
• Must-have experience with AWS Patch Manager for scanning, installation, and compliance reporting
• Hands-on experience with NGINX and PHP-FPM
• Working knowledge of PHP hosting and runtime troubleshooting
• Experience with Amazon RDS for MySQL
• Experience creating/managing CloudWatch alarms, dashboards, and logs
• Experience with New Relic APM and infrastructure monitoring
• Experience with IAM (roles, permissions, security groups)

Preferred Skills

• Experience supporting Laravel or similar PHP frameworks
• Experience with deployment automation and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with Redis, queues, cron jobs, or background workers
• Experience with CloudFront, Route 53, and AWS Certificate Manager
• Experience with Terraform or CloudFormation (infrastructure-as-code)
• Experience with audit/compliance and vulnerability remediation workflows
• Spanish fluency
