Role Overview
DevOps Engineer IV (Obs) at Jumio, an individual contributor role within the Production team with a focus on observability to improve reliability and engineer productivity. The role involves shaping team culture, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating across teams and continents.
Responsibilities
- Deploy, manage, and administer web services in public cloud environments.
- Design and develop secure, highly available, performant, and scalable services for elastic environments.
- Own operational aspects of web services: automation, monitoring, alerting, reliability, and performance.
- Innovate to address operational challenges with direct business impact.
- Lead incident response: drive resolution and communication during production-impacting incidents.
- Lead technical projects and ensure delivery against project milestones.
- Collaborate effectively with engineering and business stakeholders across continents.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science (or related field).
- 8+ years DevOps / Infrastructure management experience, including 5+ years with AWS.
- Strong foundation in operating systems, networking, distributed systems, and systems architecture.
- Proven track record leading critical DevOps projects.
- Hands-on AWS expertise including orchestration (ECS, EKS) and infrastructure management.
- Observability proficiency: logs, metrics, and tracing.
- Experience with SaaS observability tools (e.g., Datadog, New Relic, Honeycomb, Dynatrace) and/or building observability stacks (e.g., ELK, Prometheus, Grafana).
- Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash).
- Infrastructure as Code and packaging: Terraform, CloudFormation, Packer.
- Containerization: Docker, Kubernetes.
- Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Broad exposure to cloud applications, virtualization, databases (relational/non-relational), reverse proxies, and orchestration platforms.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience as a senior developer or application architect.
- Cloud cost optimization and FinOps concepts (cost allocation, unit economics).
- Experience in compliance-regulated environments (e.g., PCI DSS, ISO 27000, HIPAA, SOC 2, GDPR).
