About the role

Role Overview

DevOps Engineer IV at Availity (Remote, United States). You will lead the design, implementation, operations, and support of cloud-native infrastructure and container orchestration platforms, with a primary focus on Kubernetes on AWS EKS.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and operate production-grade Kubernetes clusters (primarily AWS EKS)
  • Build and maintain containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes best practices
  • Define and enforce standards for containerization, deployment patterns, and cluster operations
  • Build scalable, highly available, fault-tolerant platform architectures
  • Provision and manage infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Terragrunt/CloudFormation)
  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
  • Improve platform reliability, scalability, automation, and operational excellence
  • Partner with Cloud Architecture, Security, and Engineering to modernize infrastructure
  • Enable application teams through self-service and platform capabilities
  • Act as a senior technical leader: contribute to architecture decisions and mentor engineers
  • Ensure alignment with security, compliance, and operational standards

Requirements

  • 5–7+ years in cloud, DevOps, or platform engineering
  • Hands-on production Kubernetes operations
  • Strong AWS experience, including Amazon EKS
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform, Terragrunt, CloudFormation)
  • CI/CD pipeline experience (GitLab CI, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions)
  • Observability/monitoring experience (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or similar)
  • Strong scripting/automation (Python, Bash, or similar)
  • Git-based workflows and version control best practices
  • Troubleshooting, performance tuning, and root cause analysis
  • Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum

Preferred

  • AWS certifications (Solutions Architect/DevOps Engineer) and/or Kubernetes certs (CKA/CKAD)
  • Kubernetes security best practices (RBAC, network policies, secrets management)
  • Service mesh experience (Istio, Linkerd)
  • Multi-cluster or hybrid Kubernetes environments
